Mark Singleton died at home on Sunday, March 14, 2021, after battling brain cancer for four years. Mark lived much of his youth in South Idaho but moved to Arkansas in 1977 to run cross-country track at the University of Central Arkansas where he became one of the most competitive road runners in the state for well over a decade. Mark was goal-oriented with a prodigious work ethic. He became an Eagle Scout at 14 and founded a software company, Redpoint Systems, which he successfully ran for over 25 years. Mark also was a man of many interests and hobbies. He loved the outdoors, water-skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing, adventure racing, and was particularly fond of fine handmade beers, including his own. In midlife, he found the Catholic faith, which brought him comfort as his final battle was joined.
Mark’s quiet magnetism drew many loyal friends throughout his life. If you knew him, you know. If you didn’t, well then, you have our sympathies because to know him was to love him! According to his friends, the best decision he made in this life was to marry his wife, Laura, in 1995. Together, they successfully melded a family of four girls. Surrounded by daughters and dogs – Mark thought it was a perfect arrangement. Later, they saw each of their daughters married, and he brought all of his sons-in-law into his close circle of friends.
Mark will be greatly missed by his mother, Kathleen Miller Kinkel, and step-father, Charles Kinkel; wife, Laura Singleton; brothers, Jeffrey Singleton (Sharon) and William Phillip Singleton; daughter, Jessica Singleton Groff (Sean); step-daughters, Jessica Finan Patterson (Wright), Kathleen Finan Shaw (Andrew), and Emily Finan Smith (Ryan); and six grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. preceded by the Rosary at 10:00 a.m., at Christ the King Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to CARTI, your local Boy Scout troop, or your local taproom. Arrangements by Smith Little Rock Funeral Home, (501)224-2200, www.smithfamilycares.com.
