Mary Louise Smithson was called home to her eternal Heavenly mansion in the early hours of the morning May 15, 2021. She was born July 18, 1932, to Maurice and Myrna Beck, in Stewart, Iowa. Mary was preceded in death by the love of her life, Ernest L. Smithson. Also preceding her in death were her daughter, Sherry (Skip) Simpson and her son, Daniel Smith. She is survived by her son, James (Marcia) Smith, Lutz Florida, daughter, Debbie Crownover, Sherwood, Arkansas, and daughter, Ronnie Kay (Judge Harold) Erwin, Newport, Arkansas, 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind several step-children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends.
Mary was a member of First Baptist Church Sherwood, where she enjoyed worshipping, studying God’s word and fellowshipping with her church family. She also completed the 7-year program of Bible Study Fellowship. Mary spent most of her adult life working in the insurance industry, serving as President of Insurance Women of Little Rock from 1976-1977. She liked sharing with her friends that she was a direct descendant of Lyman Hall, signer of The Declaration of Independence.
Mary loved life and lived it to its fullest. She loved playing bridge, gardening, cooking and baking (her famous red velvet cake and yummy pies). She enjoyed many years of love, many outings, traveling, and so much more with her dear Ernie. Her selflessness was always present as she made sure others always came first, insisting on being last. Mary will be dearly missed by her family and friends. We rest in the fact that we will hug her again when we reach God’s Heaven.
In lieu of flowers, you may wish to donate in Mary’s memory to:
