Zelma Tucker Jones, 94, of Sherwood passed away February 20, 2025. She was born November 27, 1930, in Bee Branch, Arkansas to the late Ingram and Faye (French) Herring. She was a lifelong member of First Assembly of God church in North Little Rock where she was an active member of the Challenger Sunday School class. Her love of gospel music began at an early age and was something she instilled in her family with each new generation. Those who spent any time with Zelma heard her rendition of “I’ll Fly Away.”
Zelma is preceded in death by her late husband, James Howard Tucker, brother, Alis “Doyne” (Gilda) Herring, and great-granddaughter, Betty Marie Parsels.
She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Gerald Jones; sister, Edna (Wayne) Ostermiller; two children, Mike (Tammy) Tucker and Judy (Phill) Mariner; step daughter, Cindy (Chuck) Wheeler; grandchildren, Stephanie (Carolyn) Murry, Amber (Michael) Pirnique, Rachael (Paul Joseph) Parsels; step grandchildren, Ashley (Jeremy) Hoyer and Andrew Wheeler; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Carter, Olivia Carter, Béla Pirnique, and Charlotte Parsels; step great-grandchildren, Roman Hoyer and Khai Wheeler; five nieces: Phyllis Richmond, Lynda Perez, Donna Stowell, Sonja Hancock, and Carla Chambers; and numerous extended family and friends she made throughout the course of her lifetime.
Forever young at heart, Zelma enjoyed playing a competitive game of Dominos at the Moose Lodge or friendly game of Skip-Bo while on camping trips. She loved seeing the Bald Knobbers perform in Branson and enjoyed Sunday lunches with family at Señor Tequilas. Her charitable spirit drove her to fill the needs of others. Whether she covered someone with prayer or sent money to pay for groceries, Zelma’s generosity knew no bounds.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM, Monday, February 24, 2025, at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Edgewood Memorial Park.
