Wynell Miller, age 87, of Umpire, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
Wynell was born on January 9, 1935, in Mannsville, Oklahoma, the daughter of Robert Vernon Gatlin and Inez Lattie Gatlin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers, L.D. Mathis of Dawson Springs, Kentucky and Robert Gatlin of Langley, Arkansas; and her sister, Alene House of Stinnett, Texas.
Wynell was married to the love of her life, Orville Miller of Fancy Hill on May 16, 1953, and together they shared 63 years of marriage, until his death in November of 2016.
Wynell and Orville lived on their farm in Umpire for most of their lives, raising chickens and cows while providing a home for their children and many others. Their doors were always open for visitors, some who found this to be a home and a safe haven in difficult times. Wy, as she was known by many, loved to work outdoors, and enjoyed fishing and cooking for everyone who came to visit. She played the piano in church and sang and was a talented oil painter. Following her retirement from the chicken farm, she worked as an ESL teacher at Umpire School and loved teaching her students.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses, her son, Randy and Ann Miller of Umpire, her daughter, Janet and Terry Terrill of Hot Springs, and her son, Mark and Kathy Miller of Fayetteville, North Carolina; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; as well as numerous sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her faithful dog, Speck, (and her cat, Cat.).
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, January 7, 2022, in the Athens Cemetery with her sons, Chaplain Mark Miller and Randy Miller officiating.
Visitation will be held Friday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, in the Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel-Glenwood, 209 North Third Street, Glenwood, AR 71943.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Miller, Jacob Miller, Jeremy Pate, Jason Millenaar, Jimmy Rose and John Terrill.
Honorary pallbearer will be Carlos Nieves.
