Winnie Shaver

Winnie Janette Jones Shaver, of Sherwood, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, August 8, 2015. She was born in Thornton, Ark., to the late James Joseph (Joe) and Allie Velma Jones, on April 28, 1930, and was a graduate of Thornton High School in Calhoun County. She was a life-long member of Providence Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, Thornton. Winnie worked in the abstract and title industry for over 40 years, serving homeowners in Central Arkansas at Republic Mortgage in Little Rock and later Beach Abstract and Title Company for over 30 years in North Little Rock. As a successful professional woman, she provided an important role model for her nieces. Winnie was known for her quick wit, easy laughter, fashion sense, and for having the softest skin of anyone in the family. She loved life, & always embraced it on her own terms.
Winnie is survived by her brother, Marcus Dewayne Jones (Ola) of Thornton, and sister Margaret West of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, as well as several nieces and nephews, including Dr. Dana Gaddy and Jay Kim Gaddy, all of Little Rock, Diane West-Bourke of Santa Cruz, CA, Melanie West Wallace of Baton Rouge, LA, Debbie Hillyard of West Memphis, Sheila Lackey and Marcus Jones of Thornton, and Joseph Jones of El Dorado.
The family is especially grateful for the compassion and care that Winnie was given during her stay at the West Markham (Highlands) Rehabilitation Center.
A celebration of Winnie's life will be held in a memorial service at 2pm on Thursday, August 20, 2015 in the chapel of the Huson Funeral Home, 7700 Highway 107, Sherwood, AR 72120. To sign the online register: www.husonfuneralhome.com . Burial will be at Callaway Cemetery, Thornton at a later date.
