Willis Gene Vaughan, Sr., 76, of Sherwood, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents: Clarence R. Vaughan and Margarite Simpson Vaughan; brothers: Paul W. Vaughan, Charles A. Vaughan; sisters: Betty Dodson and Nancy Minchue; grandson: Corey Vaughan.
He is survived by his daughter and her husband: Darlene and David Holmes of North Little Rock; sons: Willis Gene Vaughan, Jr. of Little Rock, and Greg Vaughan of Sherwood; grandson: Drew Holmes of Little Rock; granddaughters: Denise Holmes of Fayetteville, Stephanie Jones of Malvern, and Samantha Vaughan of Alexander; great-grandson: Taylor Matthew; two great-granddaughters: Kallie and Kori; brothers: Robert D. Vaughan of Hilo, Hawaii, Gerald M. Vaughan of Sherwood, Clarence R. Vaughan, Jr. of Searcy; sisters: Agnes Crabtree of Dexter, Missouri and Donas York of Jacksonville, North Carolina. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends along with the Smith's, his extended family, who will all miss him immensely.
Willis served in the Arkansas National Guard and the United States Army. He was a huge Arkansas Razorback fan and he loved the St. Louis Cardinals. Willis and Gerald, his brother, spent countless hours watching football, baseball, and basketball together and he enjoyed every minute. He was a retired meat cutter by trade, working for Kroger, Weingarten's, and Affiliated Foods. Gospel music was a true passion of his and many years ago he served as music director at South Highland Baptist Church in Little Rock. Currently, Willis is a proud member of North Hills Baptist Church in Sherwood. He cherished his friends at Sherwood Senior Citizens Center and the Pat Hays Senior Citizens Center and the fun activities at both centers especially bean bag baseball. He loved his family unconditionally and took great pleasure in visiting with friends and family at every opportunity.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, February 24, 2011 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Huson Funeral Home, 7700 Hwy 107, Sherwood, AR. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, February 25, 2011 at 8:30 a.m. at Huson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 West Maryland Avenue, North Little Rock.
