Willie Harris

W.J. "Bill" Harris went to be with the Lord at 82 years of age on November 25, 2011 at his home in Little Rock.. The son of Lula and Wilburn Harris, he was born in Nimrod, Arkansas on July 23, 1929. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Linda Harris and his sister Audie Martindale and brother Lester Harris. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Louise Harris, his three children; Dr. William David Harris and wife Phoebe, Susan Barrett and husband Jeff, Terry Knight and husband Tim; his thirteen grandchildren, Joy Robertson, Anna Marie Guenther, David Harris, Ryan Harris, Melyne Holmes, Scott Barrett, Melissa Barrett, Kristina Knight, Tina Knight, Jessica Farish, Jessica Knight, Elizabeth Robinson and Micah Farish and nine great grandchildren; sister Gay Neil Gray, Leo, Cleo, and Edward Harris.
He served his country in the Air Force and on the Little Rock Police Department for 20 years, retiring as lieutenant. He loved the Lord and served as a Deacon at Martindale Baptist Church for 60 years. He had a passion and talent for music and played bluegrass with his brothers and friends; playing and singing every chance he had. He played and sang with "The Grandpas" for several years. He leaves a heritage of honor and Christian Faith to his family with whom he shared amazing love.
The funeral service will be held at Martindale Baptist Church on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at 3:00 pm. Brother Larry Walters and Brother Tim Knight will serve as officiants. Scott Barrett, Jeff Barrett, David Harris, Ryan Harris, Micah Farish, and Dusty Horn will serve as pallbearers and Deacons of Martindale Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow in Ida Mission Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 26 at Little Rock Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
