Willie "Bill" Johnson, age 90, of Kirby, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018. He was born February 6, 1928, in the Caney Valley community of Pike County, the son of Reuben Johnson and Katie Mitchell Johnson. On May 11, 1947, he was married to Verna Jean Ivey Johnson who preceded him in death on November 20, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arthur Johnson and Roy Johnson; and four sisters, Lottie Tolleson, Dottie Gunnels, Ruby Fox and Edith Fox. A retired farmer and logger, he was an Army Air Corp veteran of World War II and served for twenty years on the Pike County Quorum Court. He was a former volunteer with the Kirby Fire Department and was its Chief for fifteen years. He was also a member and deacon of Caney Valley Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie and Quin Johnson and Randy and Tena Johnson, all of Kirby; six grandchildren and their spouses, Cindi Johnson, Chris and Tennille Johnson, Jamie and Jaime Johnson, Amy and Adam Coffman, Doug and Valarie Johnson, and Chance and Michelle Johnson; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 11, 2018, in the Caney Valley Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Bobby Golden officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Chris Johnson, Adam Coffman, Jamie Johnson, Doug Johnson, Chance Johnson and Greg Smith. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
