William Walker

William Mason Walker, otherwise known as "Billy", died on June 2nd, 2015 at the age of 97. Mr. Walker was born June 21st, 1917 in North Little Rock, Arkansas to William Walker and Tommie Dean Mason. After graduating from North Little Rock High School, he attended Little Rock Junior College. Mr. Walker was a 32nd Degree Mason-Scottish Rite, a member of the Pulaski Heights Lodge #673 for 68 years.
During World War II, Mr. Walker served as a Staff Sergeant with the CBI in the Army Air Corps. Under the command of General Chennault, his squadron, the 26th Pursuit Flying Tigers were based in Kunming, China. After World War II, Mr. Walker had great pride in being a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Upon returning from World War II, Mr. Walker worked for N.L. Industries, Inc., producer of Dutch Boy Products, retiring after thirty years. He was employed by Baltimore Paint Co. as Sales Manager over the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Lastly, he owned Walker's Rentals in North Little Rock.
Mr. Walker was an honorable soldier, a natural salesman, and a devoted father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 67 years Marie Walker, and one sister, Jewel Whittle.
His survivors include one daughter, Karyn Walker Averitt of Houston, Texas, one son, William Mark Walker and wife Rosemary of Sherwood, four grandchildren, twin girls, Kameron Swithin and Walker Averitt of Houston, Texas, and William Mark Walker II and Stephanie Walker of Sherwood, and one niece, Julie Ann Whittle of North Little Rock.
The family would like to express their appreciation and heartfelt thank-you to Clarissa Kitchens, Detria Ellis, and Kelsea Washington for all the care they gave.
Funeral service will be Saturday, 2:00 p.m., June 6th, 2015 at Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home with visitation being held one hour prior to service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Edgewood Memorial Park. Please visit www.smithfamilycares.com to sign the online guest register.
