William "Bill" Townsend of Little Rock lost his 17 year battle with Parkinson's Disease on Thursday, February 4, 2010. Born in Little Rock on November 12, 1944 to Vickers and Dolly Moore Townsend, he was a member of Primrose United Methodist Church. Bill was a veteran of the Army National Guard and the retired owner of Southwest Truck and Trailer. He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Shirley Townsend and beloved pet, Todd.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty; sister-in-law, Carolyn Evans; niece, Nancy Burrow (James); nephews, Eddie Adams (Cindy), Mike Adams, Dale Adams (Erica); several great nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Bill loved working on antique cars and fishing. He was an avid horseman, having been a past member of AQHA, Mid-State and Lorrance Horse Show Associations, and was a past Arkansas State Horseshow Senior High Point Champion. He was also a past board member of Farmers Co-Op.
Bill was a lover of animals, having had many special pets in the course of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bill's honor to the Humane Society of Pulaski County, 14600 Colonel Glenn Rd., Little Rock, AR 72210.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, February 7 at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). The graveside service will be Monday, February 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock, officiated by Rev. Richard Lancaster.
