William Harris

William ?Bill? Harris, Sr., 88, of Little Rock passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2009. He was born September 16, 1920 in England, Arkansas to Earl and Ethel Harris. He was a retired mechanical engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a World War II Army veteran. He was a member and deacon of East Union Missionary Baptist Church, the Arkansas Academy of Mechanical Engineers and served on the Sheridan School Board for 10 years. Bill was active in The Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Master, Order of the Arrow and awarded the Silver Beaver and very active in the National White River Canoe Race.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Peggy Harris, of Little Rock; son, Dr. Bill Harris, Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Little Rock; daughter, Susan Bailey, of Russellville; five grandchildren, Michelle Whitlock and her husband, Jonathan, Scott Bailey, Anna Bailey, all of Russellville, Jenna and Emily Harris, of Little Rock; two great-grandchildren, Erica and Ethan Whitlock; and two sisters, Alta Young and Mary Maggart, both of Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Nolen Harris; two sisters, Louise Sours and Jean Wells and his son-in-law, Mike Bailey.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to Southwest Nursing Home and Arkansas Hospice for their love and care.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday at East Union Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M., Thursday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170. Online obituary and guest register at www.nlrfh.com.
