William Cordell Shelton

Ret. Lt. Col. US Army, William “Bill” C. Shelton, 94, of Sherwood, Arkansas passed away December 18, 2024. He was born May 1, 1930, in Monticello, Arkansas to the late Cordell and Grace Shelton. 

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Martha Halbert and nephew, Robert Clark. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, June Shelton; nieces and nephews, Steven Peek (Anita), Sharon Riggs (Bill), Emily Giles (Jeff), Julia Ferrell, Louise Foyil (David), Laura Mobbs, Ruthie Courtney, Larry Clark, Judy Gately; and a host of family and friends. 

Bill was a graduate of the University of Arkansas with his master’s degree in chemistry. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Army in 1990. He then went on to work at Remington Arms and then Arkansas Geological Survey where he retired in 2011. Bill was a member of Central Baptist Church in North Little Rock. 

Funeral service will be held at 10:30AM on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Smith-Sherwood Funeral Home (7700 Hwy 107) with a visitation at 10:00AM. Burial with full military honors will follow at 12:00PM at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Great Commission Fund at Central Baptist Church (5200 Fairway Ave. NLR, AR 72116).
