William Matthews

William Clarence Matthews, 86, of Sherwood passed away Thursday, December 23, 2010. He was born February 3, 1924 in Atkins, Arkansas to the late Charles L. and Jane A. Matthews. He was a 33rd degree mason and Past Master of the historic Trinity Lodge of Little Rock. He was a pay-roll officer for the Masonic Scottish Rite Temple in Little Rock. As a member of First Baptist Church of Sherwood, he served as a deacon and choir member. Bill was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II serving on the Heavy Cruiser USS Salt Lake City from 1943 to 1945. He was the Secretary/Treasurer of Central Manufacturing Company from 1954-1993.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Desi Matthews, of Atkins; two brothers, Charles L. Matthews and Rob Martin; sister, Lucille Welter, of Morrilton; and his beloved wife of 55 years, Martha (Woosley) Matthews of Sherwood. He is survived by his son, Kyle L. Matthews and grandson, Devin C. Matthews of Cabot.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Monday at First Baptist Church-Sherwood. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170. Online obituary and guest register at www.nlrfh.com.
