William Jones

JONES, William (Bill) Jefferson Lt. Col. (Ret.) Age 84 of Sherwood April 12, 2010. He was the son of the late Forrest Jones & Berniece Valentine Platt. Preceded in death by sister Marjorie (Dan) Plaza.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Leona Keller Jones, children Philip (Trish) Jones, David (Terri) Jones, Diane Jones, Patricia (Mickey) Whitlock, Michael (Sheri) Jones, Marsha (Mario) Calvo, Sandra (Charles) Witt and 11 grandchildren.
Mr. Jones was born July 7, 1925 in Ontario, Oregon and graduated from Hill Military Academy in Portland. After graduation, he joined the Army Air Corps and completed pilot training and officer's candidate school. He served in the WWII, the Korean War and was commander of the Black Birds squadron of C-130s in Vietnam from 1970-1971. He spent a total of 32 years in the Air Force primarily as an instructor pilot flying cargo and troops around the world.
Mr. Jones received the Meritorious Service, Joint Services Commendation and the Air Force Commendation medals among others. He retired from Little Rock AFB in 1975 as commander of the 2nd Aerial Port Squadron. He was a Extraordinary Minister and lector at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Visitation with Rosary will be held at Huson Funeral Home in Sherwood on Wednesday April 14th from 6-7:30 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday April 15th at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church. He will be buried with full military honors at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery immediately following mass.
