Eugene Hughes

January 14, 1960 — April 6, 2024

William Eugene Hughes age 64, of Royal, passed away on April 6, 2024. He was the son of William C. Hughes and Mary Ellen Denton Hughes. William is preceded in death by his parents.

Eugene was brought to this earth to shape it. Whether that be shaping the earth into something new or shaping the people around him. He was a hard-working country boy that found peace in nature. His Sunday ritual was four wheeling through the woods, surrounded by the people he loved, and his heart was most full when he was able to gather family and friends or lend a helping hand. Eugene had a playful heart that was eager to bring smiles and laughs to anyone around, never meeting a stranger. He was an active member of the local JC’s and board member for Tahoe Lake Estates for many years where he established a local Lake Hamilton treasure, The Hughes’ Lighthouse. He worked hard and played harder. Eugene dreamed about working for a power company and turned that dream into a successful business that brought underground power and storm restoration to the state of Arkansas for over 15 years. He loved his family, always providing and protecting. He was proud of his 44-year marriage to the love of his life and their two daughters, and we’re proud of him and all he overcame and accomplished in this lifetime. To anyone who has met Eugene, they will miss his funny stories and selfless heart. He leaves behind a legacy of light in this world that will be missed dearly. We love you with all of our hearts, up to the sky, forever and ever, love your girls.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sharon Hughes; two daughters, Amanda Hughes, Jessica Hughes (Aaron) Jones; grandsons, Harrison Plumlee, Mason Jones, Elijah Jones; three sisters, Patricia Stock, Ina Hughes, Debbie Jenkins (Gordon); and his canine friend Hunter.
