William Cato

William "Bill" Hampton Cato, 87, of Little Rock, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, July 18, 2010. He was surrounded by loved ones and members of the staff of VA Hospice at John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans' Hospital.
Born in Greenbrier, he was a World War II veteran who served in the Army Air Corps and was a Prisoner of War in Germany. He was a member of Little Rock's First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Joseph and Matilda Glover Cato, and five siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Lewis Cato of Little Rock; daughter, Diane Williamson of El Dorado; son, Steve Cato (Ann) of Little Rock; five grandchildren, Brett Williamson (Stephanie) of El Dorado; Chad Williamson (Catherine) of Little Rock, Virginia Steger (Andrew) of Orlando, Florida, Julia Cato of Little Rock and Whitney Cato of New Orleans, Louisiana; and six great-grandchildren.
His family was his delight, especially his wife of 68 years. There was always an open door and a hearty welcome to family, friends and neighbors who came to visit. He loved homemade ice cream, which was in constant supply. He was a handy-man extraordinaire, and an accomplished woodworker who made many cherished items for family and friends. He also enjoyed working in his prize-winning yard.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 22 from 6-8 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. After a private burial at Pine Crest Memorial Park, a memorial celebrating his life will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 23, at Little Rock's First Baptist Church at 62 Pleasant Valley Drive, 72212, with Dr. Jim Lagrone officiating. Honorary pall bearers are Dr. Jim Morse, Philip Oliver, Jim Puckett, and the men of the Sunday School class taught by Art Miller and Dr. Glen McGriff.
Memorials may be made to Little Rock's First Baptist Church; Friends of River City Men's Chorus, 6834 Cantrell Road #180, Little Rock, AR 72207; or Life Touch Hospice, 2301 Champagnole Road, El Dorado, AR 71730.
