William "Birdie" Burgess

William “Birdie” Burgess, age 68, of Glenwood, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021.

He was born on March 19, 1953, in Nashville, the son of William Franklin Burgess and Wilma Verniece Arivett Burgess. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Birdie was a Christian in his faith. He was a 1971 graduate of Umpire High School and was raised in Athens. He was the parts manager for Glenwood Equipment Company and retired after 40 years of service. Birdie enjoyed driving the backroads and admiring God’s creation. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bret and Maianne Burgess of Nashville; his daughters and son-in-law, Christy and Jamie Ramey and Tammy Franks, all of Glenwood; nine grandchildren, Cohl Ramey, Alex Ramey, Ryan Franks, Davin Burgess, Catlin Ramey, Anna Ramey, Shalyn Lyle, Jessie Lyle and Isaac Franks; three great-grandchildren, Kyler Ramey, McKenna Ramey and Kaiden Ramey; his brother, Waynie Burgess of Nashville; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Fran McWilliams of DeQueen, Vicki and David McClane of Nashville, Mary and Jay Gibson of Joplin, Missouri, Jane Burgess of Bentonville and Lisa and Michael Allen of Dierks; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 25, 2021, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Bro. Brian Hill and Bro. Tony Hill officiating.

Visitation will be Saturday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Mount Tabor Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robert Woodall, Roy Duggan, James Bright, Josh Allen, D. J. McClane and Lawrence McClane.

Honorary pallbearers will be the nurses and staff of Glenwood Health and Rehabilitation.
