William "Bill" Britt Powell

William “Bill” Britt Powell, 69, of North Little Rock, Arkansas passed away April 17, 2025. His health declined after his wife, Sharon, passed in 2022. He was a treasured father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.

Throughout his life, Bill found joy in various interests. In his younger years, he enjoyed cycling and spending time with good friends, which led to the gift of a lifelong friendship. He became adept at woodworking and amassed quite the collection of tools in his shop. He had a keen eye for photography and maintained that hobby for decades.

He is remembered for being one of the early owners of a large brick cell phone, and the first of anyone he knew to join Netflix’s DVD-by-mail service. He was rational and intelligent, and taught himself how to build computers. He loved listening to NPR, especially catching Car Talk on Saturday mornings. Except when on the clock, you would be hard pressed to find him without a Marlboro and Miller Lite.

Though not always obvious at first glance, he had a kindness in him that was such a gift to receive. He believed in fairness toward others. His wit was unmatched, with his humor sometimes teetering on the absurd. He could be quiet and contemplative.

The man loved to start a project. Much to his late wife’s chagrin, it was the finishing of projects that was often in doubt. In his later years, Bill loved going geocaching with his wife, which then evolved into playing Pokémon GO together. They were best friends, and Sharon described Bill as “the love of her life.”

Bill supported his daughter in pursuing her dreams and interests. He cheered her on at soccer games during her childhood. He taught her how to change her oil and a tire. He even tried to pass on his chopping and slicing skills in the kitchen, but those never quite transferred. His ultimate wish for her was to be truly happy with her life, and he did his best to give her that opportunity.

The family is extremely grateful for the staff at Gentiva Hospice and at the Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Good Shepherd for the excellent compassion and care they provided to Bill in his last months.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife Sharon Powell, three years ago; his mother Helen Golden; father William Powell; and his sister Barbara Brown.

Bill is survived by his daughter Nicole Carey, son-in-law Richard Carey, and granddaughter Finley of Little Rock; and two sisters, Veronica Glover of Lonoke and Linda Jolly of Mt. Ida.
