Willene Helms

Willene Wilson Helms of Sherwood passed away peacefully into her Savior?s presence on June 5, 2008 at the age of 88. She was born May 4, 1920 in Jessup, Arkansas to William (Willie) H. Wilson and Martha Elizabeth (Lizzie) Simpson Wilson. She married Isham (Ike) C. Helms on October 19, 1941. They were married 51 years before his death in 1993.
She had many interests. Some of them were cake decorating, sewing, and quilting. One of the most unusual cakes she made was the bikini cake. She made over 150 quilts which she gave to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also an excellent cook. Family favorites were chicken and noodles and Mexican cornbread.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Isham (Ike) Helms; her parents, and her brother, Floyd Wilson, of Malvern. Survivors include her daughter, Yvonne H. Blevins and son-in-law, Larry F. Blevins, of Mansfield, Texas; son, Alfred D. Helms and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann of Sherwood; grandchildren, Pamela Gail Blevins Serralta and husband Rafael of Arlington, Texas, David K. Helms and wife Amber of Bogalusa Louisiana and Melissa Helms, of Sherwood; four great-grandchildren, Andrea and Fabian Serralta of Arlington, Texas and Andrew and Karsyn Helms of Bogalusa, Louisiana.
Memorials may be made to Victory Baptist School, 10000 Brockington Road, Sherwood, Arkansas 72120 or Missionary Baptist Seminary, 5224 Stagecoach Road, Little Rock, Arkansas 72204.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Monday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Sunday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170. Online obituary and guest register at www.nlrfh.com.
