Wilhelmina Bogle See, 88, of Cabot, Arkansas, died on August 13, 2009 in Summerville, South Carolina. She was born on December 21, 1920 in Chatfield, Arkansas to the late William Everett and Florence Boyd Bogle and grew up in Kensett, Arkansas. During WWII, she worked as a legal secretary in the Farmers' Home Administration.
She married Lewis Thompson See of Cabot in 1950 and resided at the See family home place until she relocated in 2002 to live with her daughter and son-in - law in South Carolina. She is survived by her three children, two sons, Rev. Lewis Thompson (Melody) See, Jr., of Bryant, Arkansas and John Everett (Kathy) See of Cabot, and a daughter, Elizabeth Ann (Richard) Scott of Summerville. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jennifer See Rodgers of Little Rock, Daniel Thompson See of Bryant, Stephanie See Hankins of Conway, John Michael See and Stacey See Kemp, both of Cabot, Sarabeth Scott of Greenville, South Carolina, Capt. David Christopher Scott (USAF) of Minot, N.D. and Benjamin Richard Scott of Summerville, and eight great-grandchildren. A sister and brother-in-law also survive her, Mildred and Hiram Yarnell of Texarkana, Texas. Mrs. See was predeceased by her husband, Lewis T. See and a grandson, Geoffrey Benjamin See.
The Sees were a pioneer family in central Arkansas, owning and operating numerous business operations, one of the last being See's Department Store in Cabot, which closed in 1973. The nearly 100-year-old building was destroyed in the tornado of 1976.
Mrs. See assisted her husband in the store but her primary activities involved their children and church. She baked many cookies, cakes and treats and served in capacities from room mother to band chaperone. She sang in the Methodist church choir where she also played piano and was organist from time to time. She taught Sunday School, taught in and directed Vacation Bible School and helped organize summer backyard Bible clubs. She served for a time on the District WSCS (UMW). After raising her children, Mrs. See went to work as a secretary for Remington Arms when it opened its Lonoke division. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi professional sorority.
The Rite of Christian Burial will be observed at the Cabot United Methodist Church on Sunday, August 16 at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be at the See Family plot at Mt. Carmel Cemetery on Hwy 89 E immediately following the service.
