Wenonah Lee Jewell Thompson, 90, widow of Dennis Rector Thompson, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2006. A graduate of the University of Arkansas, she taught at Paris High School and at Hall High School in Little Rock until she retired in 1970. Twice she took students on the Foreign Language League Tour of Europe. She was a charter member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, played the organ, and served as president of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She had a lifelong love of gardening, and was for years a member of a Little Rock horticultural club.
She is survived by her daughter, Victoria Lee Holifield (Brooks); three grandchildren, Kerrie Pickering (Jay), Erin McClure, and Ryan Holifield (Kristin); and two great-grandchildren, Andrew Pickering and Sebastian Sziarto Holifield. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susie Thompson Mackey.
On Tuesday, October 17, a private family burial will be followed by a celebration of Wenonah's life at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with the Reverend John Fleming officiating. A reception will follow at the church.
