Warren Smalling

Warren Smalling 89, formerly of NLR, died Thursday, June 3, 2010. He was born December 5, 1920, in Mt. Vernon, Texas to Loda Hardcastle and Jim Smalling. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jean Rains.
A member of the Greatest Generation,, he served in the army Air Force, stationed in England during WWII and the Air National Guard during the Korean War.
He worked for the Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock, until his retirement in 1974. The next 35 years were spent doing what he enjoyed most: fishing, golfing, archery, gardening, and playing dominoes.
He lived in North Little Rock until four years ago when he moved to St. Bernard's Village, Jonesboro. He was an active member of Brockington Rd. Church of the Nazarene; formerly NLR First Church, where he served as a boys Sunday School Teacher, bus driver, usher, Sunday school member, and fish provider for the church fish frys. He enjoyed telling jokes and sharing opinions with the men's coffee groups at St. Bernard's Village where he never missed a skip-Bo or bingo game.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Catherine Conway Smalling, twin daughters Kay (Gary) Francis of Georgetown, Tx. and Fay (Don) Guinn of Jonesboro; grandsons Josef (Heather)Hall and Nathan (Truly) Hall of Austin, Tx., Damon (Paula) Guinn of Kansas City, Mo., Cullen Guinn of Portland, Or., and Nicky (Katie Rae) of Jonesboro, Ar.; great-grandchildren Emmaline, Isabella and Genevieve Hall all of Austin, Tx., Ellie and Oliver Guinn of Kansas City, Mo.
Visitation will be Monday from 12:00 until service time at 1:00 P.M. at Huson Funeral Home Chapel, 7700 Highway 107, Sherwood, Ar. 72120. Interment will be at 2:00 P.M. at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery on Maryland Ave., NLR.
Lasting memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to Forest Home Church of the Nazarene, 1922 Race, Jonesboro, Ar. 72401.
Dad, we will miss your quick wit, home grown fruits and vegetables, and competiveness in every game that we played with you. Rest In Peace.
