Wanda Dale Smith, 88, of Little Rock, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2009. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Bill Crouse of Sheridan and Debra and Lester Storment of Conway; four grandchildren, Cliff Crouse and his wife, Jaki and Melissa Crouse, both of Sheridan, CPL Wesley Storment who is stationed in Iraq and Tamber Storment of Conway; two great-grandchildren, Sayde and Mayce Crouse of Sheridan; one brother, Don Leatherman, Jr. and his wife, Jo of Portland, Oregon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Frenchie and Darrell Leatherman.
She was born August 12, 1920 in Gould, Arkansas, to the late Don and Eva Leatherman. She loved dancing and took lessons from age three until she graduated from Little Rock Central in 1938. Wanda received a degree in Kindergarten Primary Education from Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas. She taught at Spencer Park School in Nebraska and at Oakhurst Elementary and Anthony School in Little Rock for a number of years.
Wanda was a member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church and a resident at Good Shepherd Retirement Home. She loved animals and contributed to many animal rights groups. She loved people and had numerous friends and associates. She held an office in the Fair Park Elementary PTA every year that her children attended school there. Wanda was a member of the Japonica Garden Club for over twenty years, shared her home with UALR foreign exchange students and performed other public services.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 3 at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 4 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment in Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Humane Farming Action Fun, P. O. Box 3577, San Rafael, CA 94912; American Anti-Vivisection Society, 807 Old York Rd., Ste. 204, Jenkintown, PA 19046; or the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, P. O.
