Wanda Jean Wester

Wanda Jean Batson Wester was welcomed home to be with the Lord that she trusted, believed, and followed on Nov. 17, 2020 with her daughter at her side. She was born May 15, 1930 to Clayton Nathaniel and Mabel Lou (Tennie) Batson in Haywood, OK. She attended High School at Pharaoh, OK. She was active in sports. Played basketball and was a first baseman for their softball team. After graduation she attended further education in Kansas.

She married the love of her life, Johnnie William Wester. They remained in this union until his death in 2006. She is preceded in death by her parents, her only son Jerry, brother; Ralph Batson, and four brother in laws, Buford, Clayborn, Joe, and David Wester.

Wanda was always active in church. She grew up and married on Church of God in Okemah, OK. As a family we moved to Collinsville, OK and attended the Church of the Nazarene. We then moved to Vilonia, AR in Aug of 1969. There we began attending Church of Nazarene. At the Vilonia Church, she was once head of the children’s ministry, head of the mission’s team for several years, taught Sunday School, served on the board of directors, and was music director for over 20 yrs. If the church doors were open, she made sure that she and her children were present.

In her early years she loved planning and cooking meals for family and friends. She was a member of Home Extension. She was an avid homemaker, wife and mother. In her later years she enjoyed Sr. Citizens, playing dominos, and getting her hair done, sending cards out to others, and cheering on the Razorbacks and Oklahoma teams.

The last five years, she has resided with her only daughter Connie Price and loving son-in-law Ricky both of Vilonia. She is also survived by five granddaughters. Christy Wester of WA, Melissa Markwordt (Edmund) of MT, Rachael Holsted (Andrew) of CO, Whitney Staub (Caleb) of MT, and Magen Tune (Jason) of Conway, AR. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren. She also has a young man that always treated her with respect and he thought of her as his own grandmother. Heath Garrison (Kristi) of Bryant. She enjoyed sharing meals with another young man Mason Greening. It just made her smile if she knew he was coming. She left behind many friends from church and senior citizens along with many family members that will love and miss her greatly.

There will be an open visitation on Sunday, Nov 22 at the Vilonia Church of the Nazarene, 1054 Main Street, Vilonia from 4-6.
