Walter Turner

Walter Turner, age 91, of Kirby, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024.

He was born on March 31, 1933, in Kirby, the son of Leamon Jones Turner and Era Johnson Turner. He was married to his special lady, Imogene Golden, on July 5, 1952. He was proceeded in death by his wife; all of his half-brothers, Emmett, Troy (Tip), Roy, and Veston Turner; one brother, Coy Lee Turner; his sisters, Quilda Faye, Zelma Rie Simmons, and Erma Dean Nielson, who just passed away on Friday, May 10th.

He enjoyed working hard to provide for his family. Since his father died when he was young, he went to school and worked on their farm to help support his sisters. After he married, he worked in sawmills in Oregon and Mt. Pine, AR. Then his family moved to Houston, TX where he began to do carpentry work. When he moved his family back to Kirby twelve years later, he started farming and continued to do construction work.

He was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church along with his family. He loved the community and was a proud supporter of the Kirby Trojans where his children and grandchildren participated in sports and other school activities. He was so looking forward to seeing the first game in the new Kirby Gymnasium.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Gwen Turner of Kirby; his daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Ronnie Whisenhunt of Kirby; his five grandchildren, Jeremy (Melissa) Turner, Valeri (Tyler) Parson, Lucas (Celeste) Whisenhunt, Lance Whisenhunt, and Lee Whisenhunt; his six great-grandchildren, Carter (Hagen) Turner, Kenyon Turner, Grace Turner, Liam Parson, Grady Parson, and Lyza Whisenhunt; two great-great grandchildren, Miller and Ryker Turner; one sister-in-law from Kirby; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of wonderful friends.

Pallbearers will be Mike Golden, Randy Golden, Keith Golden, Kevin Golden, Steve Crump, Clay Crump, Pete Pedron, and Marty Smith.
