Walter William Binz, 93, of Little Rock passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018. He was born in Little Rock to Joseph A. and Catherine (Benz) Binz on July 15, 1925. Walter was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He worked for AFCO steel as a Purchasing Agent and retired after 44 years of loyal employment.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elizabeth Binz of Little Rock; 7 children, son, Ron Binz (Mary Donahue) of Denver, CO; daughters, Dianne Rhodes of North Little Rock, Barbara Hiley (Mike) of Little Rock, Mary Chism (Donnie) of Alexander, Anita Spence (Randy) of Little Rock, Patty Neumeier (Bernard) of Little Rock and Shirley Scott (Steve) of Maumelle; 18 grandchildren, Jeremy Rhodes (Bernadette), Katie Rhodes, Chad Hiley (Chloe), Brett Hiley, Leah Osburn (Jake), Joey Forrester, Jesse Forrester (Courtney), Meagan Chism, Celeste Flanagin (Jimmy), Diana Allen (Matthew), Eliot Adams (Brooke), Kyle Neumeier (Genevieve), Lori Melliere (Joe), Caleb LeFevre, Chris LeFevre (Gabrielle), Robert Scott, Lily Scott and Caroline Scott; 18 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Elbert Binz (Vernell) of Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mildred Barron (James).
After graduating from Catholic High School for Boys in 1943, he enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Walter was honorably discharged on April 20, 1946 which happened to be on the 18th birthday of his future wife, Elizabeth Ann Carter. They were married 2 ½ years later at St. Patrick's Church in North Little Rock.
Walter, the true patriarch of his family, was a man before his time. He was a modern day husband who knew that raising a family was a two-person job. He shared the workload with his wife, helping with diaper changes, nursing sick children, homework and school projects. He was an avid fan of his children, and attended all the school and sporting events in which they were involved. His devotion to marriage, church and family is the timeless legacy he left for us all.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Cass Boyette and Linda Lindsey for the loving care they gave to Walter for the past 3 years, and to the staff of Heroes Home 7 at the Arkansas State Veterans Home.
