Wadie Mae Burton

Wadie Mae Burton, age 81, of Glenwood, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022.

Wadie was born in Pomona, California, on November 4, 1940. She was the daughter of Leon George and Thelma Frances (Harris) McCoy. She has resided in Glenwood since 1971 and was a member of First Baptist Church of Glenwood.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Bonnie; her brother, Curtis; and her son, Michael.

She had a very competitive spirit and enjoyed watching her children play sports. She never missed the Olympics and was even watching the current Olympics in her last days. She loved the Home Shopping Network and QVC, and she managed to accumulate quite the collection of jewelry.

She was a very hardworking and loyal employee. She worked at many places including Bourn’s Electronics in California, which at the time, was a fledgling aerospace industry. She also worked in Glenwood at Gilbert’s, Lawrence Pulpwood, Woodard’s Drug Store, Piggly Wiggly and Wright’s Food Center for over 20 years. At the young age of 54, she put herself through nursing school and became an LPN. She worked full-time at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hot Springs for 20 years, retiring at the age of 75.

She is survived by her older brother, Leon McCoy of California; her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Tanja Burton of Glenwood; her daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and LD Billings of Glenwood and Shanee and Sean Wright of Glenwood; her grandchildren, Holly and Jason Bailey, Laiken and Dustin Deaton, Chris and Ally Wright, Ryan Burton, Brian Billings, Reagan and Greg Walker, Kimberly Collins, Trent and Raven Billings; and her great-grandchildren, Gaige and Gunner Deaton, Lillie, Levi, Lorali and Lincoln Wright, Londyn and Aspyn Bailey, Mila Shockley, Maddox McCauley, Macy-Jayne Sykes, Elijah Billings and Reece Walker.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 12, 2022, in the Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood with Bro. Jamie Cowart officiating.

Interment will be in the Langley Hall Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Chris Wright, Ryan Burton, Brian Billings, Trent Billings, Gaige Deaton and Gunner Deaton.
