W. Thornton

W.H. "Bill" Thornton, 84, of North Little Rock passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010. He was a member of Levy Church of Christ. Bill joined the Marine Corp. in 1943 (WWII). He served in the South Pacific (Asiatic Theater), and then retired from the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers. For his remaining years, he volunteered for Baptist Health (NLR) and the Wellness Center in Sherwood.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mildred L. (Beaver) Thornton, of North Little Rock; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and CarrieLynn Thornton, of Orlando, Florida and Curtis and Kristi Thornton, of Sherwood; two daughters, Norma Ruth Rios and husband, Nicholas, of El Dorado and Terri Sue Cheroff, of Palacios, Texas; sister, Frances Spinelli, of North Little Rock; and eleven grandchildren, Tony Rios, Corey Thornton, Christina (Rios) Campbell, Nick Cameron, Jamie Cameron, Zach Cheroff, Josh Thornton, Gage Thornton, Austin Thornton, Kendall Thornton and Cassidy Thornton. He was preceded in death by his parents, C.J. and Mary Alice Thornton; and six siblings, Ila Mae, Ruth, Sally, Hazel, Andrew and Oris.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday at Levy Church of Christ. Burial will be in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170. Online obituary and guest register at www.nlrfh.com.
