W. O. Davis

W. O. "Oscar" Davis, age 87, of Langley, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 17, 2011. He was born on September 26, 1923, at Langley, the son of Otis Dean Davis and Vercie Pearl Graves Davis. On September 11, 1941, he was married to Iva Nora Kennedy. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Joy Wright and Iva Wright; and one brother, Harmon Davis. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the Southern Philippines. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church where he faithfully served for over fifty years as Deacon and song director. He was a school teacher, a basketball coach, and owned and operated the Langley Skating Rink for many years. He loved his cows and farming. He is survived by his wife of 68 wonderful years, Iva Nora Davis of Langley; one daughter and son-in-law, Dorthy and Lee Roy Arivett of Langley; one son, Randy Davis of Memphis; four grandchildren and their spouses, Tammy and Scott Burkhart, Marty and Misti Arivett, Jessica Davis and Ryan and Rachel Davis; seven great-grandchildren, Heather Burkhart Moon and her husband, Ricky, Ben Burkhart, Jordan Arivett, Madison Arivett, Ashton Williams, Noah Davis and Jenna Davis; one great-great-grandson, Russell Moon; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Ray and Norma Davis of Langley and Jeaniece Davis of Lodi; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 20, 2011, in Langley Hall with Bro. Keith Shewbart and Bro. Scott Feemster officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Langley Hall Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Bobby Morphew, Emmitt White, Roger York, Gene Cowart, Junior Tedder and Brian Pounds. Memorials may be made to the Langley Hall Cemetery Association, 915 Hwy. 369 N., Glenwood, Arkansas, 71943. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
