Vonnie M. Smith, 83, of Little Rock, born April 3, 1924 to the late George and Sudie Downs, departed April 10, 2007. Before her retirement Vonnie worked for many years at Baldwin Electronics (AR&T) and Weingarten Grocery. She was known affectionately to her twelve grandchildren as ?Memaw?, who will cherish the fond memories and her devotion to each one of them through the years. She took great pride in the fact that not a day went by without a telephone call from all four of her children.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, L.R. Smith, two brothers, Joe and George ?Pinchie? Downs, sisters Opal Sutton and Mary Francis (Bootsie) Varner, grandson Ron Smith, Jr., great granddaughter Sarah King and daughter-in-law, Margaret Smith.
She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters, Patsy Boardman and her husband, Buddy, Bonita Underwood and her husband Donny. Two sons, George Smith and his wife, Mary Ann and son Ronny Smith, eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170. Graveside services will be held 10:00 A.M., Thursday at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Officiating will be Steve Smith and Debbie Buckels. Pallbearers are Dennis, Jeff, Steve, Donny Smith, Robert Barnett, Josh Summerhill, Kenny and Gary Boardman.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Little Rock or American Cancer Society. Online obituary and guest register at www.northlittlerockfuneralhome.com.
