Virginia Thew, age 82, of Mount Ida, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. She was born on October 8, 1935 in Glenwood, the daughter of Melvin Nelson Chambers and Ollie Lee Echols Chambers. On January 5, 1952, she was married to Hubbard Thew who preceded her in death on March 24, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Katy Reese; and four brothers, Bob Chambers, Dale Chambers, Billy Chambers and Charlie Chambers. She attended Faith Tabernacle in Mount Ida and was very active with the Montgomery County Senior Citizens Center. She was a member of the Go Getters Beanbag Baseball Team and volunteered with the Montgomery County Thrift Shop. She loved country music, especially Marty Robbins, and attending music concerts at the Front Porch. She enjoyed fishing and, in earlier years, was an excellent water skier. She is survived by seven children and their spouses, Kathy and Charley ONeal, Mike and Eunice Thew, Janet Weston, Marvin and Necie Thew, Melvin and Lynn Thew, Karen and Bart Williams and Mark and Jill Thew, all of Mount Ida; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; her nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 5, 2018, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Bro. Don Vaughn officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Joplin Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Go Getters Beanbag Baseball Team. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
