Virginia Elizabeth McGhee of North Little Rock, passed away Tuesday, April 11th, with her children by her side. She was 84 years old.
Virginia was born in Fort Wayne, IN on Oct. 6, 1938, to the late Claude L. and Elizabeth Hunt.
She grew up there and in Knoxville, TN with her sister and best friend, Claudie. She later attended the University of KY and the University of TN before marrying George McGhee.
Together, they raised their four children in Memphis, TN and Benton, AR.
Virginia was a devoted mom and the thriftiest of homemakers. She loved her children above all else and was constantly sewing clothes for them, attending their games, and serving as scout mom - all while making sure that each one felt loved and special to her. After the kids were grown, Virginia helped George start and run C&W Tool and Equipment Supply in Little Rock.
She worked there many years - making little money but taking lots of naps!
“Gran” had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren - especially her “Numero Uno” (you know who you are!) Some of their favorite memories of her include backyard cookouts, playing Farkle, I Spy and Dominoes, gardening, Granny Lunch (guess what’s in the freezer!), big hoop earrings, big sunglasses & headscarves, eating muffins on the patio while it snowed, feather dusters, good advice, unconditional love and outings to Goodwill. She loved a good visit, and her front porch was often where friends and neighbors would gather for long talks.
Virginia is survived by her four children: Tony (Laura) McGhee of NLR, Andrea McManus of Sherwood, Michael (Marsha) McGhee of LR, and Jason (Janet) McGhee of Lakewood, CO. Ten grandchildren: Dani White, Amy Harrison, Erin Calaway, Casen McGhee, Kara McGhee, Logan McGhee, Anna Claire McGhee, Tiernan McManus, Jackson McDonald, and Ava McDonald and seven great-grandchildren: Abe, Sam, & Simone Harrison, and Joni, Hannah & Winnie Calaway, and Helen White.
Virginia, herself, narrowly survived a tornado in 1988, so in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central AR Tornado Relief for those affected by recent storms. There will be no formal memorial service; cremation is entrusted to Smith Family Funeral Home NLR.
