Virginia May Aitken of Hot Springs, AR passed away on September 23, 2024, at the age of 92.
Virginia was born on September 1, 1932, in Howard, Kansas, she was the daughter of Howard and Effie Highsmith. She was preceded in death by her parents; as well as her sisters, Joan Wilson and Linda Neukirch; and her son, Charles Aitken.
On July 29, 1951, she married the love of her life, Dwight Aitken, and together they had five children. She was a member of the Hot Springs Seventh-day Adventist Church. Virginia was known for her impeccable cleaning skills, her servant heart, and was always involved in service to others, primarily through her church’s various ministries.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 73 years, Dwight Aitken; daughters, Cynthia (Rick) Mason of Broken Arrow, OK, Regina Aitken of Hot Springs, Susan Martinez of Albuquerque NM; and son, Stephen (Connie) Aitken of Jamestown, KY; as well as her daughter-in-law, Bett (Charles) Aitken of Pittsburgh, PA. She is also survived by grandchildren, Rachel and Natalie Martinez, Neil Myers, Shaun Aitken, Chris and Kyle Aitken; great-grandchildren, Charlette Aitken, Cash Aitken, Crew Aitken, Ava Aitken, and Layla Aitken; along with many other extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
The family is grateful to Hospice Home Care, caregivers Nellie Calin and Mary Clark, and for the slew of dear ones who visited and called and tended to our family.
A visitation with family, and memorial service, will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, starting at 5:00 with the service to follow at 6:00 p.m. at Smith Family Funeral Home, 2205 Airport Road, Hot Springs, AR 71913 officiated by Ron Ray.
