Viola F. Payte, age 96, of Mount Ida, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016. She was born on April 11, 1920 in Mount Ida, the 12th of 15 children born to William A. Widener and Ada Wheeler Widener and was the last surviving child of this family. On February 28, 1937, she was married to Clarence Elmer Payte who preceded her in death on October 27, 2002. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Wheeler and Maxine Payte. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Jerry and Linda Payte of Paonia, Colorado, Clarence and Nita Payte of Hot Springs, Ralph Payte of Grand Junction, Colorado and Bruce Payte of Mount Ida; her daughter and son-in-law, Millie and Cleon Hess of Utah; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 24, 2016, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Glenwood with Scotty Rowton officiating. Visitation will be Friday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be David Payte, Barry Craw, Ronnie Craw, James Wheeler, Ted Wheeler and Bruce Payte. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her grandsons. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
