Victoria Winifred Barney, age 74, passed April 16th, 2024. She was born April 30th, 1949 in Ruston, Louisiana.
Vicki was an R.N. who worked for the Little Rock School District for 29 years before retiring. She also served as the President of the Arkansas School Nurses Association, helping to pass important anti-smoking legislation. Vicki was a mentor and mother figure to many. She was a caregiver. She was a fantastic friend. She loved being a grandmother or “Grimmy” and was an active part of her grandchildren’s lives. Vicki was an accomplished baker and cook. She was a gifted gardener, something she learned from her mother. She enjoyed reading and birdwatching. Most of all, Vicki loved taking care of her family. She was unfailingly kind.
Vicki is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Mark A. Barney; her parents, George D. and Winifred K. Gleason; a brother, Richard Gleason; a brother-in-law, Calvin Holland; a sister-in-law, Cindy King; and her parents-in-law, Harry Day Barney and Margaret E. Barney.
Survivors include daughters Tiffany (Russell) Crandall of Newfane, New York, and Alaina (Chris) Holmes, and grandchildren Aubrey and CJ Holmes, all of Benton; a sister Georgia Holland of Eureka Springs; brothers Robin Gleason of Little Rock and Russell Gleason (Maureen) of Birmingham, Alabama; a sister-in-law Melody (Jim) Fox, brother-in-law Steve (Vicki) Barney, and brother-in-law Bob King of Dayton, Ohio, as well as many nieces, nephews, other family, friends, and adopted children and grandchildren.
Her family and friends are comforted knowing she rejoins the love of her life, Mark.
A Gathering of Family and friends will be held Saturday, June 8th at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Commemoration of Life Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Both will be at Smith-Benton Family Funeral Home at 322 N Market St, Benton, AR 72015.
