Vernice Finney Johnson, age 80, of Glenwood, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015. She was born on May 29, 1935, at Rosboro, the daughter of William Thomas Spears and Viola Durell Cogburn Spears. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Alfred Duggan, Hershel Anglin, Addis Finney and Maurice Johnson; two sons, Gilbert Ray "Doodle" Duggan and John Thomas Duggan; one granddaughter, Amanda Rae Evans; and two brothers, Virgil Lee Spears and Glen Thomas Spears. Vernice was a Christian in her faith and loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed growing flowers, raising a garden, camping and fishing. She played the guitar and sang with others for church services, nursing homes and jail ministries. During her stay at the Montgomery County Nursing Home she enjoyed playing dominoes and Bingo where the staff became her second family. She is survived by four children and their spouses, Ricky and Tammy Duggan of Newhope, Janice and Kenneth "Dankey" Cogburn of Glenwood, Arlene and James Golden of Langley and Andrea and Larry Hamilton of Glenwood; twenty-two grandchildren; fifty-six great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, William Ray and Carol Spears of Vernon, Texas; one sister, Thelma Owenby of Vernon, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 28, 2015, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood with Bro. George "Boots" Donaldson officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Coker Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Montgomery County Nursing Home. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
