Vada Powers

Vada T. Powers age 94 of Arkadelphia formerly of Little Rock died Friday, January 8, 2010 in Arkadelphia. She was born July 31, 1915 in Degray, Arkansas the daughter of the late Wilbur K. and Lilla Mae Dunlap Terrell. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, Elvis Earl Powers; two sisters, Loraine Terrell McCallum and husband, Wriley Robert McCallum; Freddie Mae Terrell McCallum and husband, Lewis McCallum and great-great nephew, David Terrell McCallum.

Survivors include one nephew, Jack Terrell McCallum and wife Ruie; great-nephew Robert E. McCallum and wife Diann all of Arkadelphia; great-niece, Vicki McCallum Hedden and husband, Terry of Longview, Texas; her husband's niece, Bonita Esch and husband, Phil of Plano, Texas; nephew, James Powers of Bismarck, AR; and a host of friends.

Vada and Earl both retired from Federal Civil Service positions, she was the chief clerk for the chief Judge of U. S. Customs Court in New York City. Earl was Federal Food & Drug inspector for the port of New York. Both retired in 1971 and moved to the Top of the World
Retirement Center in Orlando, FL, for nineteen years and then to Parkway Village Retirement Center in Little Rock for twenty years. Vada was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock and most recently the Degray Baptist Church near Arkadelphia.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, January 11, 2010 in the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Marvin Pate and Rev. David Young officiating with burial in Degray Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:00 PM Monday until service time. Memorials may be made to Degray Cemetery fund or to a charity of your choice.
