Troy Edward Wilkins of Maumelle (formally of Sherwood) passed away at his home on Friday, October 10, 2008 at the age of 87. He was born on July 30, 1921 to the late Spencer LeRoy and Lora Rellar (Mitchell) Wilkins in Cato, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sisters, Dolly Dimple Wilkins and Cordia Wilkins, and four brothers, Eldridge Wilkins, Spencer Wilkins, Pascal Wilkins, and Virgil Wilkins. Also preceding him were an infant son, Jerry Wilkins, a son, Jimmie Wilkins and a daughter, Mattie Ruth (Dodson) Noah.
He is survived by his loving wife Mattie Pearl (Chadwick) Wilkins, whom he married on October 4, 1941. They were privileged to celebrate their 67th anniversary this past weekend with a gathering of family and friends. His surviving children and their spouses are Troy Lee Jr. and Sandi Wilkins of Maumelle, Anne and Rick Tyler of Maumelle, Charles and Maudie Wilkins of Sherwood; a daughter-in-law, Jean Wilkins of Cabot; and a son-in-law Mearlon Noah of Cabot. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren. Surviving him is one sister, Ruby Pointer of Lawson, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Troy was a WWII Navy Veteran, Seaman, First Class. He worked as a self-employed plumber until he began working as a Plumbing Inspector for the City of North Little Rock. He worked for the City of North Little Rock, where he earned the honor of Employee of the Year in 1987; he retired in 1987.
Visitation will be from 5 - 7:00 PM Monday evening, October 13th at Huson Funeral Home in Sherwood. The memorial service will be Tuesday morning, October 14th, at 10:00 AM at Huson. Grandsons J. Emerson and Ricky Tyler will be officiating. Burial will follow at Harmony Cemetery on Hwy 89 in Cato.
Pall Bearers will be Terry Henson, Ricky Henson, James Alden, Miles Johnson, J.D. Strickland, and Jason Hoper.
