Troy E. Hignight age 70 of Bedford, Texas passed away June 23, 2009. He was born March 9, 1939 in Okolona, Arkansas to the late Lucille Haltom Hignight and Glen Anderson Hignight, and was a member of Okolona United Methodist Church. Troy was the great-great grandson of Abner Hignight, who was one of the first settlers in Clark County, Arkansas territory in 1810. After serving in the military, he was employed by General Telephone at its headquarters in Irving Texas. When GTE presented its first presidents quality award to the outstanding employee of the year, Troy was the recipient. During his tenure at GTE, he managed the electronics team for the Dallas Cowboys televised home games from Texas Stadium in Irving.
After retirement, he established Highnight Communications, serving the public schools in Irving and east Texas. Troy was an avid sportsman and he and his father made numerous elk hunting trips to Colorado.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Janssen Highnight, son Greg Highnight and wife Shannon and grandson Carson, age 1 year, of Florida, two sisters, Helen Jean Highnight Mathis of Arkadelphia, AR., and Phelsa Dean Highnight Killingsworth of Bryant, AR., eight nieces and nephews, numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews, an a host of friends.
Memorial services will be in Irving Texas Chapel of Roses Funeral Home Saturday at 10:00 A.M, June 27, 2009. Graveside services will be in Smyrna Cemetery in Clark County at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday June 28, 2009 with Rev. Bob Sanders officiating.
