Troy D. Cooper, 88, passed away March 5, 2010. Born in Snowball, Arkansas on January 27, 1922 to the late Charley L. and Martha Loftin Cooper, he was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He participated in the battles and campaigns at Omaha Beach, in Normandy, northern France, the Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe. He was awarded the European, African and Middle Eastern Service Medals and the Good Conduct Medal.
Troy grew up in the mountains near Richland Creek during the Great Depression. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener and a 32nd degree Mason. He and his family lived in California, Missouri and New Mexico before returning to Arkansas for retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ione Cooper of Russellville; daughter, Cathey Morris of Little Rock; grandchildren, Megan Morris and Joshua Morris; and sisters, Marie E. Cash of Dover, Charlene Robbs of St. Louis, Missouri and Mildred I. Greathouse, also of Dover. Troy was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Loftin Cooper, Kendrick Cooper, Charles Noah Cooper, Archie Cooper and Dewloine Cooper; sister, Nolan Nancy Lafave; and son-in-law, Danny Morris.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, March 10 at 3:30 p.m. at the Pinecrest Memorial Park gazebo in Alexander, officiated by Rev. Daniel Kirkpatrick. Visitation will precede the service, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
