Travis Wayne Toland, age 76 of Royal, Arkansas, faded into glory on March 2, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, O. D. "Bodie" Toland and Jean McCaskill Toland; a son, Danny Toland; brother, Ray Toland; mother-in-law, Lola Jean Tucker; and brother-in-law, Jerry Smith.
Travis was born on April 27, 1947, in Bearden, Arkansas and was raised in Camden, Arkansas. Travis graduated from Gulf High School in New Port Ritchey, Florida then enlisted in the US Army. He proudly served his country as an aircraft mechanic during the Vietnam War. Through years of medical treatment Travis never gave up or slowed down. He pushed himself to keep going. On hard days he found relief in his recliner with fur buddy, Bella, in his lap. The final ten years of his life, although plagued with doctor appointments, medical procedures, and pills, were also his happiest due to the love and devotion of his wife Angel.
Travis traveled the United States for 38 years behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler racking up over a million miles without a single accident. When he was no longer "On the Road Again", Travis held several positions within the American Legion Post #13 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, including Adjacent for 13 years. From his teen years to his last days, he enjoyed working on vehicles. His pride and joy was a 2001 Chevy truck that he restored part by part. He also enjoyed grilling, horses, and helping friends and neighbors.
Under his flowing white beard and hard exterior was a handsome face, tender heart, faithful friend, and wonderful husband and brother. His favorite expression, "You can't fix stupid" spoke volumes about his attitude toward many he encountered.
Travis is survived by his wife, Angel Tucker Toland, of Royal, AR; "Sis", Lynn Smith, of Conway, AR; son, Chris Toland(Melissa); and granddaughter, Reegan of McDonough, GA; daughters, Shannon Toland of Knoxville, TN and Lyssa Dunbar, of Royal, AR; sister-in-law, Becky Toland, of Nevada, MO; brother-in-law, Cleston Tucker, of Royal, AR and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins he enjoyed spending time with.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 5th from 6-8pm at Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel in Hot Springs. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, March 6th starting at 2:00 pm also at the Smith Family Funeral Home.
He will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or charity of your choice.
