Tommie Lee Griffin, age 78, of Ward, Arkansas, was born February 10, 1930 in the Baugh Chapel Community near Ward to Boss and Mae Bearden Griffin and died Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Tommie was a retired Ward business man. He had a grocery store in the 60's and did construction work, farmed and also owned and operated a chicken farm for many years. Tommie built and operated the first mini-storage in Ward and also developed the Griffin addition in Ward before retiring. Tommie loved traveling with his wife of fifty years, Theda Ann Langford Griffin. They visited every state but Hawaii, many of them several times. They loved to travel in their RV until their health began to decline. Tommie loved thoroughbred racing and owned and raced thoroughbreds for over thirty-seven years. He even built a training track on his land which he used for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Shirley Griffin and a brother R C Griffin. He is survived by his wife, Theda Ann; sister-in-law, Sandra (Gary) Nelke ;nieces, nephews and many cousins and friends. Graveside service will be 10 a.m., Friday, August 29, 2008 at Apple Hill Cemetery in Ward, Arkansas. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, American Diabetes Association or Arkansas Hospice, 3022 S. 2nd Street, Cabot, Arkansas 72023.
