Tommie G. Spears, age 87, of Glenwood, died Sunday, March 24, 2013. He was born on March 16, 1926, at Rosboro, the son of John Spears and Ida Finney Spears. On October 4, 1946, he was married to Doris Marie Schwietzer Spears who preceded him in death on December 9, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jimmie Spears; two brothers, Charley Spears and Elmer Spears; and six sisters, Lillie Mae Todd, Zona Kizer, Rachel Doster, Zettie Smith, Genevia Pennington and Viola Burke. A U.S. Navy veteran, Tommie worked for many years in Washington as a bear guide, providing tours for Sports Illustrated Magazine and other businesses and individuals from throughout the United States and was a member of the Hounds Hunting Club. He also worked in construction and for over 60 years he was a proud member of the International Laborers Union. In later years, he and his wife, Doris, owned and operated Hemlock Grocery. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Tony Wiley of Washougal, Washington; four grandsons, Alan Callison, Steve Callison, Jon Spears, all of Washougal, Washington and Mike Spears of Cascade Locks, Oregon; one granddaughter, Katie Huff of North Carolina; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 28, 2013, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Chaplain David "Doc" Kenser officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Coker Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be David Spears, Tracy Spears, Ronnie Kizer, Casey Markham, Timmy Joe Pate and Danny Burke. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
