Thomas (Tom) Edward Shaw, 94, of Sherwood, Arkansas, passed away on January 30, 2023.


Tom was born in Conway, Arkansas on November 26, 1928. Tom was married to Marguerite Louise (Harvey) Shaw for 62 wonderful years. Tom retired as a Sergeant Major from the United States Army National Guard in 1988 after 41 years of service to his country. He also retired as a carman from Union Pacific Railroad in 1990 after 40 years. In addition, he was an avid RVer and woodworking craftsman, ham radio operator (KD5CBT) and volunteer who lent his talents to the Rock City Sams RV club for over 22 years. Tom was a member of the Fraternal Order of Masons since 1953.


Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Marquerite Shaw, parents, Betty Sue and Ralph Gorbet, both his brothers, Don Shaw and Danny Gorbet and a sister, Marilyn Gorbet. Tom was a wonderful, loving Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and friend. Tom is survived by his daughter, Marcia Smith and her husband, James Smith of Tampa, FL. Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren include Correy ‘Smith’ Hartzog of Tampa, her sons, Blake (Fiancée Lindsay) and Zachary (Wife Raigen) of Niceville, FL; and Ryan Smith and his wife, Karen, and sons, Tyler and Mason of Tampa, FL; and many other loving family and friends whom he considered part of his family. He is also leaving behind his lifelong friend, Relda Lasater. His sharp wit and generous spirit will be missed but  fondly remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Arkansas Hospice, 14 Parkstone Cr, No. Little Rock AR.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 7 at Rest Hills at Rest Hills Cemetery in NLR AR officiated by Pastor Derek Allen of Baring Cross Baptist Church.
