Thelma M. Lorenzo, 96, of Little Rock, passed away December 7, 2024. She was born in Waldron, Arkansas, one of Thomas P. and Louise M. Lorenzo's three children. Her parents and brother, Charles, predeceased her but she is survived by her brother, Tom (Jackie) of Little Rock, 5 nephews and 1 niece and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Waldron High School, Thelma obtained BSBA and JD degrees from the University of Arkansas where she was a member of the Dean’s List and the Arkansas Law Review. During law school she was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity and served as president of Kappa Beta Pi.
After employment with the University for 3 years, she was with the State Employment Security Division for 33 years, retiring in 1987 as Chief Counsel, then engaged in private practice until 2008.
Thelma was a member of the Bar of Arkansas for over 50 years, the Arkansas and American Bar Associations, the U.S. District Courts of Arkansas, the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
She served on the Governor's Commission on the Status of Women during the Bumpers Administration and on the International Association of Personnel in Employment's Research and Reports Committee as its first woman president and on its Legal Affairs Committee.
She enjoyed advising and counseling clients during her years of private practice, many of whom felt they were treated as family.
A member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock since its founding, arrangements are pending. The family expresses their sincere appreciation for the sympathy and kindness shown during the last several years.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Alzheimer's Disease Research or the Pulaski County Humane Society.
