Thelma Mae Gray

Thelma Mae Gray, passed away on September 12, 2023, in her hometown of Hot Springs. She was born on May 9, 1935, and leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will forever be remembered.

She was a Lake Hamilton High School graduate, Class of 1953.  On February 1, 1953, she married the love of her life, Merwin Gray.  Besides taking care of her family she worked as an LPN at Ouachita Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital, now CHI St. Vincent.  

She had an overflowing love to give and fearlessly loved those closest to her. Thelma's family was her top priority, and she protected them with everything she had. One of Thelma's proudest accomplishments was fostering over 300 children throughout her life. Her nurturing nature created a safe haven for those in need, providing them with care and love when they needed it most. Thelma's impact on these children will forever be imprinted on their lives. Thelma had a range of hobbies and interests that brought joy to her life. She had a talent for sewing, quilting, and crocheting, and creating beautiful works of art with her skilled hands.

Thelma's warm presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Merwin Gray, four sons; Ronald Gray, James Gray, Clark Gray, and Tracey (Hannah) Gray, two daughters; Juanita (Alan) Buckmaster and Faye Langley. She was blessed with nine grandchildren; Jarrod, Amelia, Caleb, Miranda, Christina, Nichole, Ronnie, Hope and Nathan. As well as 12 great grandchildren; Sasha, Alyssa, Taylor, Kris, Teagan, Alex, Vincent,  Chrissy, Madison, Adrian, Josh, and Zach.  She also is survived by her three sisters, June Thomason, Judy Duett, and Claudette Slapar. She will be reunited with her parents, and her two brothers; Roy Cox and Benny Cox. 

A visitation service to celebrate Thelma's life will be held on September 18, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Smith Family Funeral Home in Hot Springs. This will be followed by a Funeral Service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Royal, Arkansas.
