Thelma Gladice McLain Chambers, age 92, of Hot Springs, formerly of Rosboro, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 5, 2019. She was born on December 12, 1926, in Rosboro, the daughter of George Warner McLain and Jociephine Spears McLain. On October 21, 1952, she was married to the love of her life, Rev. Charlie Chambers, who preceded her in death on April 7, 2019. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Darlene Moore; two infant children, Charles Chambers and Carolyn Chambers; her parents; her brother, Silas McLain; and three sisters, Delah Huggins, Sarah Teague and Lottie McLain. She was a licensed minister, serving alongside her husband, Rev. Charlie, for many years as he pastored numerous area churches until his retirement, and they both shared an integral part in establishing the AEGA World Wide Ministries in Louisiana, as well as assisting with setting up the first Head Start in Arkansas. She was a lifetime member of the Womans Auxiliary of the VFW. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, and was a gifted seamstress, especially as a dressmaker, sewing one-of-a-kind dresses for her daughters throughout their youth. She loved making dolls, particularly Santa dolls at Christmastime, and everyone who knew her always was honored by receiving one of her special dolls. Thelma will forever be remembered for making the best blackeye pea sausage in Arkansas and for her love of high heel shoes. We are all going to deeply miss her, but we take great comfort in knowing she is in a much better place now and back with her beloved, Charlie. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Debbie Chambers of Benton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and James Hill of Bonnerdale, Linda and Brett McCool of Hot Springs and Joy and Dale Speers of Fountain Lake; thirty-two grandchildren; forty-six great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members; and a host of wonderful and loving friends. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 7, 2019, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood with Rev. Virgil Blaylock and Rev. Robert Howell officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, prior to the services in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood. Interment will be in the Coker Cemetery, near Rosboro. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jeremy Chambers, Forest Hill, Daniel Hill, Jeffery Goines, Andy Goines and Blake Breshears. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Harbuck; her "special angels", Sammy, Barbara, Helen and Cheryl from Arkansas Hospice Home Base; her "special angels", Teri, Brenda and Dr. Daniel Cartaya from Arkansas Hospice Inpatient, 5th Floor, CHI St. Vincent, Hot Springs, and the additional doctors, nurses and staff of Arkansas Hospice, who have cared for our beloved Thelma.
