Sylvia Wheeler, age 88, of Mount Ida, died Monday, February 21, 2011. She was born on February 14, 1923, at Paragould, the daughter of Avery Dewitt Tate and Mary Elizabeth Flanery Tate. She was preceded in death by two sons, Ray Johnston and William Earl Johnston; one grandson, Lanny Grissom; two brothers, Henry Tate and Robert Tate; and three sisters, Margie Hampton, Marie White and Mildred Smith. For twenty years she lived in Mountain View and then relocated to Mount Ida. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by one son, Allen Widner of Springfield, Missouri; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Pete Davidson of Mount Ida and Donna and Jim Walker of Jonesboro; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Johnston of Brookland; five grandchildren and their spouses, Renee and Butch Parks, Tammy and Darryl Bostow, Duke and Jennifer Walker, Jennifer and Matt Burns and Misti Widner; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Felix and Mary Tate of Paragould; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, February 25, 2011, at Faith Tabernacle in Mount Ida with Bro. Charles Ballentine and Bro. Paul Burke officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Owley Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
