Sylvia Blackwood, 89, of Ward, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022. Sylvia Dawn Blackwood, most commonly known as “Ammaw” (compliments from her first born grandchild) transitioned to her eternal destiny at 11:20 pm on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 with both of her children at her side. Born in England, Arkansas on August 4, 1932 to the late Adolph Carroll and Josie (Milliken) Carroll, it was her grandparents who provided her a home and raised Sylvia. Survived by her two children Sharon Blackwood of Ward and Steven Blackwood of Little Rock, two grandsons Matt Eagle (Whitney) and Jason Eagle both of Cabot, one granddaughter Ariel Blackwood and her fiance’ Randy Carroll both of Atlanta, GA, one greatgranddaughter Blake Eagle; and other loving members of her family Keith Pichon, Cindi Blackwood and Zach Bruggen. Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband of many years Frank Blackwood; and grandson, the late Alex Steven Blackwood. A graduate of Little Rock Central, Sylvia worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Little Rock for more than thirty years before retiring as a Manager in 1992. Frank and Sylvia chose to raise their family in Cabot, where she was known throughout the community for her love for life and God. Sylvia was actively involved in Church as long as she was physically able to attend, after which she continued to serve others by hand writing cards of encouragement. A faithful servant dedicated to sharing God’s promises with anyone and everyone, Sylvia spent many years teaching Sunday school, among other roles in various churches such as South Highland Baptist Church in Little Rock, Mount Carmel Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Cabot, Grace Community and Fellowship Bible Church. Through her years of fellowship and teaching, An inspiration to all, Sylvia helped to lead hundreds to know Christ through “the plan of salvation” which she often referred to as “the Roman Road”. Sylvia was most proud of her family. The epitome of inspiration, faith, love, and acceptance are how some would describe her. She enjoyed life to the fullest, traveling far and wide to any and all activities of her children and grandchildren, whether it be a horse show, a beauty pageant, sporting events or anything in between, Ammaw would always be there for her family. Ammaw had a signature presence and sound that was never mistaken by anyone. She was most proud of her family, vocalizing her support for her children and grandchildren in everything they pursued with passion, strength and courage. While gracefully aging, Sylvia continued to witness to others, sharing the word of God at every opportunity. As her body aged and she was unable to care for herself, her daughter Sharon demonstrated incredible love and dedication by caring for her. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 30, 2022 from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm at SmithWestbrook Funeral Home located at 404 W Dewitt Henry Drive in Beebe, AR. In light of the potential health hazard threat of the current pandemic, there will be no formal receiving line at any of the services. Celebration of Life event for Sylvia Blackwood will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home. The service will be broadcast live on Facebook for those unable to attend. A private Burial will take place at the Sylvania Cemetery immediately following the service.
