Syble Oberst

Syble Hawkins Oberst was born October 13, 1920 in Washburn, Mo and transitioned from this earth January 26, 2012 following a lengthy battle with cancer, which she battled with amazing tenacity. She lived and worked most of her life in Barry County, MO. She retired in Taney County, MO and lived the last three years of her life with her son and daughter-in-law in North Little Rock, AR.
Syble was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Sara Maye (Snook) Hawkins. Four brothers; Perry Hawkins, Clifford Hawkins, JD Hawkins, and Monroe Hawkins as well as two sisters, Grace Forrest and Ruby Stamps. Also preceding her in death were Husbands James V. Long, Joe A. Bunch, and Robert Oberst.
She is survived by her daughter Joyce (Long) Wade and husband Charles of Manhattan, Kansas. Son, John Long and wife Sandy of North Little Rock, Arkansas. Five grandchildren: Anthony, James and Christopher Boehm; Galen Long and Amanda (Long) Parham. She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Syble lived an unwavering Christian life and was a loving wife and mother. Her devotion to her children, family, and love for home was shared in a generous hospitality to everyone. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, quilting, playing games, swimming, singing and participating in church activities.
Funeral services will be held at Whelchel's Funeral Home in Forsyth, MO at 11:00 on Monday, January, 30, 2012. Visitation will be held at 10:00 prior to the service. Internment will be at Rocky Comfort, Mo. At 3:00 pm.
